The Ohio Career Assessment Specialist:
Providing True, Comprehensive Career Assessments
A true, comprehensive Career Assessment is more than an interest inventory that is available on the internet. A true Career Assessment examines not only a student's interests, but their aptitudes, physical and academic abilities, work values, and work preferences. Hands-on work tasks and/or work experiences are a critical component. A comprehensive Career Assessment supports the Ohio Department of Education's Each Child, Our Future five-year strategic plan to ensure each student enjoys a bright future.
|
Please note: While there are online software programs that claim to provide career assessments, there is no substitute for a personal touch and real-life experience. A true Career Assessment is individualized for each student in an on-going response to results of assessments and interviews.
|
Assessments are IndividualizedAll Career Assessments are similar in that a student's interests, aptitudes, abilities, and preferences are evaluated. However, each assessment can be individualized as the Specialist gets to know each student so that information and results specific to that student can be provided.
Follow-Up RecommendationsEvery Career Assessment includes a written report detailing the results of all assessments, showing each student's strengths. The report also provides recommendations for career/technical programs for training during high school which are available in that student's local school district or career technical high school associated with their school district. |
