About OACAS
The Ohio Association of Career Assessment Specialists was founded in 1999 in an effort to promote the work of Career Assessment Specialists around the state of Ohio and to provide on-going professional development. Our Career Assessment Specialists are licensed with the Transition To Work endorsement which is added on to an existing teaching license for Intervention Specialists and Career Technical Education instructors.
Qualified Career Assessment Specialists have knowledge and expertise in career-technical training options, including training program requirements, competency requirements, and possible job outcomes. Career Assessment Specialists provide a Career Assessment Report for students, their families, and their school district with the results of all assessments, and recommendations for future planning. They understand current labor market information, career- technical initiatives, reform models (such as High Schools That Work, career pathways and career resources) as well as current local labor force needs and career development needs. They have expertise in administering and interpreting the results of valid assessments. They may provide information or input for IEP teams for students with special education needs. Career Assessment Specialists use a universal design for learning in order to individualize a Career Assessment for each student they work with.
